    Introduction to Research Workshop



    Workshop Title: Introduction to Research

    Date: Wednesday 6th May, 2015

    Location: GEMS0-029 Graduate Entry Medical School, North Campus, University of Limerick.

    Please note traffic into UL is heavy at this time so allow for delays and give yourself adequate time for parking (clamping is in operation and is heavily enforced, please do not park in staff parking areas, pay parking is available as is public parking which is marked with a (PAY) or P on the parking map http://www2.ul.ie/pdf/848567151.pdf

    The Medical School is on the North Campus in UL which is across the river. If you come in through the main gates of UL (by the flagpoles) when you come to the first roundabout turn left and go straight on until you come to the next roundabout and go straight through that, then over the bridge and follow the road around to the right until you see the campus buildings and a car park on the left beside the playing fields (Sports Pavilion car-park, no. 16 on the parking map). If this is full there are also free public car parks and pay car-parks on the South Campus (see parking map) and there’s a pedestrian bridge (the Living Bridge no. 31 on the campus map) across the river right by our building.

    10.30 – Audit (Niamh O’Leary)

    11.00 – Coffee Break

    11.30 – Study Design (Dr Damien Ryan)

    12.00 – Stats Do’s and Don’ts (Professor Ailish Hannigan)

    12.30 – From Practice to Research (Mark Dixon)

    13.00 – Lunch

    14.00 – Developing Research & Audit Proposals – Breakout Session (Dr Damien Ryan & Dr Niamh Cummins)

    16.00 – Closing Remarks

    Alan is a critical care paramedic, paramedic educator and prehospital researcher, currently working around the world as an educator and researcher. He has previously worked and studied across Europe, North America and the Middle East. He holds a Graduate Certificate in Intensive Care Paramedic Studies, and an MSc in Critical Care. His main interests are in care of the elderly, end-of-life care, patient safety, professionalism (including role and identity), and paramedic education.
